Why we welcome engineering apprentices at IDH
Based at IDH Exeter, Design Engineer Ryan Finnimore has recently completed his Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship. This five year course is invaluable for budding engineers, allowing them hands-on, paid experience as they learn and culminating in a qualification. It’s certainly an undertaking, so Ryan’s qualified is well deserved. We caught up with him to hear more about this experience.
Congratulations, Ryan. It’s great to see you qualify. Was the training what you expected?
My five-year Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship combined my academic degree with professional development and ultimately, my IEng qualification through the End-Point Assessment. The route was demanding but extremely rewarding, as it required balancing full-time work with university study, while continually developing my knowledge, skills and behaviours for a civil engineer.
Are you excited to be qualified?
What have you been enjoying about working at IDH Exeter? Any particularly interesting projects?
What are you most excited about at work in 2026?
Anything else you’d like to share?
